Trail Review: Castlewood State Park, St. Louis

This year the hubby wants to test out more trails around St. Louis. While I’m always down for a nice trail run and hike, they aren’t always in the cards when training for a race. Long runs take priority during the weekend.

Today we tested out Castlewood State Park. It’s about a 25 minute drive from St. Louis city.

On an unseasonably warm day like today, we expected a decent crowed. Parking be as a bit of a nightmare, but we eventually found a spot and were on our way.

I’ll also note the parking lot had a series of portapotties which was extremely convienent.

We took the River Scene Trail, a 3.2 mile scenic loop, with beautiful scenery.

The trail has several steep and rocky portions, but for the most part, is pretty family friendly.

Alex and I ran, jogged and walked, making it through in just under an hour. The views are extremely nice, and there are several wide and flat areas perfect for picking up the pace.

It was a bit crowded and there were times when passing the trail mosey-era were a bit frustrating.

If you are looking for an uninterrupted trail run, this isn’t your place. But, if your looking for great views, areas to run and a great hike, Castlewood is a great place.
