No whines from wine country: Running Napa

This weekend I was fortunate to spend celebrating a beautiful couple in Napa. The wedding events ran from Friday to Monday, leaving plenty of free time throughout the weekend. On top of the amazing food and wine, which I’ll get to in a separate blog, I made time for a few runs.

We stayed at the Silverado Resort and Spa, just off the famous Silverado Trail.

My runs were short, in distance but long in time. I ran sometimes at a 10:30 pace, just because I didn’t want to rush through the beautiful scenery.

Want motivation to get up at 6 a.m. for a run while on a vacation? Check out these views. Each morning I ran the .75 miles to the Silverado Trail from our Airbnb and was surrounded by acres and acres of beauty. I’m talking breathtaking, unreal, pinch me I must be dreaming, scenery.

The relatively flat route was the perfect, “I’m on vacation but don’t want to be lazy” trek, and the calm quiet mornings were the perfect time for reflecting.

One morning I saw bikers, hot air balloons and horses, one morning Blue Jays and Hawks. Each run was more beautiful and satisfying than the next.I will say that the temperatures were a lot colder than I anticipated – 40s and 50s – granted I was running just after sunrise. I packed shorts and a jacket, but probably would have been a bit more comfortable in running tights.

I can’t say enough how wonderful it was to run in Napa. Not to mention, you’re really earning those inevitable wine calories.

Stay tuned for food highlights!
